چکیده

Two methods are compared that are used in path integral simulations. Both methods aim to achieve faster convergence to the quantum limit than the so-called primitive algorithm (PA). One method, originally proposed by Taka-hashi and Imada, is based on a higher-order approximation (HOA) of the quantum mechanical density operator. The other method is based upon an effective propagator (EPr). This propagator is constructed such that it produces correctly one and two-particle imaginary time correlation functions in the limit of small densities even for finite Trotter numbers P. We discuss the conceptual differences between both methods and compare the convergence rate of both approaches. While the HOA method converges faster than the EPr approach, EPr gives surprisingly good estimates of thermal quantities already for P = 1. Despite a significant improvement with respect to PA, neither HOA nor EPr overcomes the need to increase P linearly with inverse temperature. We also derive the proper estimator for radial distribution functions for HOA based path integral simulations.

Extrapolated high-order propagators for path integral Monte Carlo simulations.

We present a new class of high-order imaginary time propagators for path integral Monte Carlo simulations that require no higher order derivatives of the potential nor explicit quadratures of Gaussian trajectories. Higher orders are achieved by an extrapolation of the primitive second-order propagator involving subtractions. By requiring all terms of the extrapolated propagator to have the same...

Hypothesis of path integral duality . II . Corrections to quantum field theoretic results

In the path integral expression for a Feynman propagator of a spinless particle of mass m , the path integral amplitude for a path of proper length R(x ,x8ugmn) connecting events x and x8 in a spacetime described by the metric tensor gmn is exp $2@mR(x ,x8ugmn)#%. In a recent paper, assuming the path integral amplitude to be invariant under the duality transformation R→(LP 2 /R), Padmanabhan ha...

On the Hamiltonian Approach and Path Integration for a Point Particle Minimally Coupled to Electromagnetism

We derive the exact configuration space path integral, together with the way how to evaluate it, from the Hamiltonian approach for any quantum mechanical system in flat spacetime whose Hamiltonian has at most two momentum operators. Starting from a given, covariant or non-covariant, Hamiltonian, we go from the time-discretized path integral to the continuum path integral by introducing Fourier ...

NURBS-Based Isogeometric Analysis Method Application to Mixed-Mode Computational Fracture Mechanics

An interaction integral method for evaluating mixed-mode stress intensity factors (SIFs) for two dimensional crack problems using NURBS-based isogeometric analysis method is investigated. The interaction integral method is based on the path independent J-integral. By introducing a known auxiliary field solution, the mixed-mode SIFs are calculated simultaneously. Among features of B-spline basis...
